Week 2 of Flag Football: Hamstrung

In week one I tweaked my blessed hamstring...

My mobility was very, very, limited...BUT I still managed to sack the quarterback as our team sailed to another victory.

The team is 2-0 and on our way to big things.  Or not.

Now I ice and ice and ice my hamstring until gloriously healing powers revive it.

Amen.

Week 1 of Flag Football

So I was talked into playing flag football.  I was aware of this league but passed on it initially because catching and throwing the football was never my skill set.  I was a lineman.  Hitting, blocking, and smashing into people was what I did.  People get the wrong impression when they hear you played college football, they assume you'll actually be good at flag football.

Well, this day I was actually good.  I caught 2 touchdowns!

(comparable but not exactly the same as below)

Our offense was struggling, sputtering, you might say and my touchdown was the first for our team.  My catch, perhaps, ignited our offense.  We went on to win 7 touchdowns to 4.

The down side to this glorious day was my pulled hamstring.  Whilst sprinting and playing defense I felt the pangs of being out of shape.  My hamstring failed me.

(My face looked very similar to this)

Yet our team survived and ran out the clock while I limped around.

Now I ice and stretch and hope for recovery by week 2.

Basketball Explosion

So yesterday I hooped it up.  Miracle of miracles:

A) I didn't injure myself.

B)  In about an hour of action I scored 10 or 12 points.  Double digits!  It was all a blur so I can't say precisely but I made at least 5 baskets.

The key to scoring is that the ball goes into the hoop when you shoot and doesn't bounce off.

So I played basketball and some other post on this forsaken blog listed that as a goal...so yay me.

Until we meet again.

Weight Loss Parking Strategy

The mystery continues!  This morning I tipped the scales at 266.

I can only attribute this continued loss to:

  • A new parking strategy.
    • I now park in the lower lot, which demands that I walk uphill.  Sure, this may seem insignificant, yet here I am with continued moderate weight loss.

  • Eating less.
    • Well, DUH!  You eat less, you jazz up the parking routine and blam-o!  The pounds slowly drop off.
    • But why am I eating less?  I'm simply so busy that I don't have time to eat.  What I eat is relatively nutritious so that helps me too.
In the words of Bono, "Walk on!"  If possible make that walk uphill.

Mystery Weight Loss

So I was surprised to find that I weigh 268.3!

Haven't really worked out hard or been active.  Not sure what to credit this too...

If you've been keeping score at home my weight fluctuates from upper 260's to the low 280's.  And when I register in the 280's that usually motivates me to get in gear.

Getting into the 250's...that will take effort.  Will I give it?  Stay tuned.  Or don't.  Whatever.

The Last Nine Days

 Whelp.

It's been 9 days since I posted my idea or goals or ponderings, etc...etc...

Whatever it was, not much happened.

I played basketball once.  I scored a single bucket in the 1.5 hours and didn't get hurt.  This is relatively phenomenal.  No injuries is the greatest achievement that I must attribute solely to the guardian cherubim surrounding me on the court.  Amen.

However, it must also be noted that this did not fulfill the twice a week target.  More like a 25% completion going on here.

In other news, I ate a tray of oatmeal raisin cookies, so binge eating is still a thing...

But yet we march on.  We keep going.  Why?  Because.  Because if you don't then you've stopped.  And if you've stopped then you're not going anywhere.  And if you're not going anywhere WHERE ARE YOU?  In all this confusion we march on.  We keep going.  Why?  Because...

No fitness goals for 2021...maybe

It's a new year...a month ago.  I'm not a timely type person.  I'm busy.  Which is part of my physical fitness hurdles.

How many years can come and go with lofty goals, yet next to nothing is achieved?  At least one more.

We should respect the realist that does not make a fitness goal only to have it covered in junk food crumbs.

Weight: 275 pounds

My typical goal is that I want to lose 30 pounds and get into the 240's, yet here we are.  So we know how effective those goals have been executed.

When goals are just things that you want, but not actions you take, pigs fly and dreams die.

I wish I could ride a rainbow to physical fitness and find a pot of gold.

Instead of goals here is a list of things that I maybe will possibly try to do:

Basketball

Twice a week I'll play some recreation basketball.  Unless I don't.

6 Minutes of Really Slow Push-Ups

I read a book that claims six minutes of working out really slow should burn out your muscles and be sufficient for your weekly workouts.  I'm going to try it.

Wish me luck...
